You won't show me all the content I WANT to see, but insist on showing me content I've chosen to no longer want to be updated about. Hey … you're still doing that thing where you show in my subscription feed channels I no longer subscribe to. Right, this is the point where I made my usual post on twitter mentioning for whatever it’s worth. This is something that simply should not happen.

Let me stress this one more time, for anyone who may not get it: My subscription feed is still showing channel uploads from channels which I was once subscribed to, but have actively unsubscribed to.

Sure enough, I go and triple check that I was unsubscribed to the channel, and I was. It wasn’t hard to miss as this channel uploads videos in bulk, which is what caught my attention. Well, what do I see in my subscription feed yesterday but one of these channels that I had unsubscribed to. I’ve been cleaning up my subscriptions to music game related channels recently, and have only really stayed subscribed to maybe 2 out of 20 some channels. I’m not just sure it’s happening this time, I *know* it is happening. Our main reason for focusing on feeds is that we see feeds as a good foundation for an ecosystem of RESTful services, and thus our architectural approach revolves around the idea of modeling services as interactions with feeds. In an article I wrote back in April, titled “ I’m Quite Certain YouTube Is Re-Subbing Me To Channels I’ve Unsubscribed To!” I discussed that YouTube was showing in my subscription feed channels which I was certain I’ve unsubscribed to. Based on FSM, it is easy to build services that manage feed-based services so that those feed-based services can easily create, change and delete feed subscriptions, and that it is easily possible to share feed subscriptions across users and/or devices.

In this paper we present the Feed Subscription Management (FSM) architecture, which is a model for managing feed subscriptions and supports structured feed subscriptions. However, the more data sources and services are exposed through feed-based services, the more it becomes necessary to manage and be able to share those services, so that users and uses of those services can build on the foundation of an open and decentralized architecture. An increasing number of data sources and services are made available on the Web, and in many cases these information sources are or easily could be made available as feeds.
